This tasty (and adorable) twist on America’s favorite pie is just tart enough to avoid a sugary overload. Enjoy with your fellow pie enthusiasts, a la mode or not.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 can apple pie filling
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 package refrigerated Pillsbury piecrust
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Cut the top off of an apple
  3. Scoop out the core so that the apple looks like a little bowl, and repeat with each apple
  4. Fill each apple with pie filling
  5. Cut the piecrust into 4 by 1/2-inch strips and layer six strips atop each apple to form a lattice pattern
  6. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl
  7. Brush light coating of melted butter on latticed crust and sprinkle sugar/cinnamon on top
  8. Bake on any baking sheet or pan for 20 minutes or until the crust looks golden brown
