A ‘major’ event

CLASS to host event for students to learn more about majors

The College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) will hold a majors fair Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Summit Conference space on the fourth floor of the Idaho Commons.

Alexandra Schaar, academic advising specialist with CLASS, said the majors fair is an opportunity for students to learn more about the different majors offered at the University of Idaho.

“Retention is a big focus for everyone at the U of I currently,” Schaar said. “The majors fair is an event that CLASS is hosting to get as much of the academic opportunities at U of I centrally located for students to kind of come and ask questions about different majors and see if there might be something that they’d like to explore.”

The fair will have useful information for students who may want to add or change a major, but Schaar said it will also be useful for students who have yet to choose a major.

“Our main focus is students who are undecided or undeclared in a major, but it’s also a great place for people who are considering adding a second major or a minor to come and kind of get some more information about those things,” she said.

CLASS is a college within UI with many different majors to choose from. Schaar said this is why the fair will be important, particularly for freshmen and sophomores.

“Myself and other advisors here in the college student’s office have been putting the event together,” she said. “We’ve been coordinating with other academic departments and colleges across campus to make sure that representatives are there to answer questions.”

This is the first year the majors fair will be held, and Schaar said she hopes many students attend.

“This is the very first event, so we’re excited about it and hope we get a really great turnout,” Schaar said. “I just hope a lot of people can make it.”
