I remember coming home from school one day to find a fresh plate of cookies waiting on the counter. Imagine my dismay when I was told they were “Dad’s cookies” and not mine. Of course, I was later told that it was only the name of the recipe and they weren’t actually only for my dad. This cookie recipe has been a favorite in my family and for friends. It is the perfect combination of sweet, crispy and chewy. The best part is the aroma that fills the room while they are baking in the oven.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup oats

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Beat white and brown sugar with butter until smooth.
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract and beat until fully incorporated.
  4. Add the flour, baking powder and baking soda. Mix well.
  5. Stir in oats.
  6. Roll mix into small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes.
