The University of Idaho men’s tennis team cruised past Lewis-Clark State College 6-1 on Saturday, Jan. 31. Idaho walked into this match with a 1-5 record and played 1-2 LCSC for the first time this season, after their first match against Oral Roberts was cancelled in the morning.

This past weekend was a great win for the tennis team. The Vandals won all three doubles matches, securing the doubles point before starting singles matches. With the momentum from the wins, they went into singles matches and won five out of the six matches.

The first three doubles matches took place at the same time and concluded in the order of two, one and three. The first match saw junior Mikolaj Lis and sophomore Noe De Col as a pair. They won 6-1, ending in quick fashion.

The second and third matches both ended 6-4. Sophomore Eric Wang and sophomore Paul Janson wereas a team. The last team was senior Chetanna Amadike and freshman Valentin Glasl. Idaho dominated these matches and put up a very strong team performance. With all three matches going to Idaho, it put a lot of pressure on LCSC to perform in the singles.

Idaho won five singles matches, which showed success throughout the whole roster. Idaho could rely on everyone from their team to have a good performance. LCSC had just one win in the second match of singles, and it was still a close match, ending 6-4 in both rounds. Idaho has now won two matches in a row and will look to carry their momentum as their next match is against a 1-2 Boise State University.

The Vandals improved to 2-5 on the season and showed that playing at home is comfortable for them and gives them confidence.

This was Idaho’s third straight game inside the P1FCU Kibbie Dome, and they will go to Boise for three matches on the road. The Vandals have seven more games before they dive into Big Sky Conference play. Looking ahead into the season, they are off to an excellent start.

The Vandals will travel to Boise this next weekend and face off with the Broncos and Linfield College. Idaho will battle with the Broncos on Friday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m., before battling with Linfield the next morning Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m., followed by a second matchup with the Broncos at 6 p.m.
