The Idaho Vandals women’s golf team placed third, with junior Zoe Newell leading them as she tied for second, at the Sun Mountain invitational in Missoula, Montana.
This is Newell’s second top-five finish of the four tournaments that the team has played this season. She recorded 12 birdies this weekend, which was a big factor to her success.
Freshman Inkjung Charnchanayothin was the second highest finisher for the Vandals, as she tied for 12th with a score of seven-over.
Sophomore Laura Caamano tied for 15th with a score of eight-over while senior Kaylin Johnson and sophomore Ella Kozak both tied for 20th place with a score of 11-over.
Redshirt senior Boram Jung tied for 22nd as an individual player with a score of 12-over. The Vandals finished 23-over as a team, which beats their best score this season by one stroke.
The Vandals next tournament to close out the fall schedule will be on Oct. 20-22, at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii. The Vandals placed third the last time they played in this tournament, and they hope to have that same success this time around.
