Every year as part of the Homecoming tradition, the University of Idaho holds Serpentine the night before the Homecoming football game. This year marks the 116th year of the Homecoming tradition, having started in 1909.
The event starts at 8 p.m. at the UI Golf Course. Students and alumni will follow the Vandal Marching Band, dressed in fun costumes, and march through campus as they lead the event to the P1FCU Kibbie Dome parking lot, where the Vandal Rally will start at 8:30 p.m.
Once there, the Vandal Marching Band will play a few tunes, including the Vandal Fight Song. The Homecoming committee will then give a speech where they introduce and crown the Homecoming Royalty. Finally, the head football coach, Thomas Ford Jr., will be joined by the Vandal football team to bring energy, spirit and excitement to the crowd for the game on Saturday.
The rest of the night is the most anticipated. Last year, due to high winds, fire danger and smoke, the bonfire and fireworks were cancelled. This year, the bonfire and firework show is expected to return.

After the traditional bonfire, the ICCU Homecoming Firework Show will begin at 9 p.m. in the Kibbie Dome parking lot. You won’t want to miss the fireworks lighting up the campus.
A great way to celebrate Vandal Spirit, Serpentine invites freshmen into our traditions and allows alumni to return.
