Track and Field team splits up for three invitationals over the weekend

Blossom Omogor sets PR with 54.30 second 400-meter

The Vandals Track and Field squad was split up and sent to three different locations to participate in invitationals last week. Some were in Seattle for the Husky Invitational, while others went to Spokane for the Whitworth Indoor Invitational and the rest found themselves in Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.  

At the Don Kirby Invitational, sophomore Blossom Omogor ran 54.30 in the 400-meter distance race which broke her previous record setting time earlier in the year by over half a second. She is also ranked as the fifth fastest in the Big Sky. Omogor was also a part of the 4×400 relay team with Maiya Brunoro, Rhyan Madden and Franziska Stoehr that finished with a time of 3:41.99. The second fastest finish in the conference.  

Junior Cash Jones put up his best mark in the long jump at the Husky Invitational. He recorded 7.11 meters, the fourth longest in the Big Sky. Also in Seattle, freshman Pia Kircher put up a time of 9:42.83 in the 3K, the fastest time for UI this season. Freshman Shawn Twumasi Ampofo continued his dominance atop the conference in the triple jump, leaping 15.28 meters.  

Finally in Spokane, a couple Vandals finished fourth place. Jesse Redding finished the women’s mile in a time of 5:01.09 and Sam Fulbright finished the men’s mile at 4:17.68. Also finishing fourth was Adelyn Mitchell in the women’s 60m prelims, with a score of 7.81. Lydia Nance finished seventh in the 400-meter with a time of 1:00.13 and Zac Knapp finished eighth in the men’s 3000-meter with a time of 8:25.64 

UI Track and Field will be competing in the indoor Big Sky championships in Flagstaff, Arizona. The events will be from Feb. 27 to March 1, followed by the NCAA indoor championships two weeks later in Virginia Beach.
