News Brief — ASUI Senate

Wednesday marks the beginning of the end for the ASUI Senate’s spring 2018 sessions, with the last meeting being held May 2.

The Senate sent both bills, involving removing instances of gendered language from the ASUI Rules and Regulations and ASUI Bylaws, back to committee.

Sen. Nicole Skinner, sponsor of both bills, said the bill promotes inclusion in ASUI and adds consistency to both the rules and regulations and the bylaws because there are instances in both where gendered neutral language is already used.

Pro tempore Jordan Kizer said he thought the changes were more of grammatical changes, which do not need a bill and can be made by the chair of the committee on rules and regulations.

The senate will discuss two bills next week to implement an ASUI Supreme Court as an extension of the committee on rules and regulations and other governing documents April 25. One bill is for the ASUI rules and regulations and the other is for the ASUI Bylaws.

Kizer said adding an ASUI Supreme Court has been a project very near and dear to Sen. Zachary Spence.
