Cross country: Gomez, Vandals to compete at Big Sky Conference Championships Saturday

Rather than trick or treating this Halloween, the Idaho men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Cedar City, Utah, Saturday for the Big Sky Conference Championships.

All eyes will be on senior Kinsey Gomez, who has two first-place finishes and one second-place finish this season.

“I’ve never seen her this fit or running as fast as she is,” Idaho assistant coach Travis Floeck said.

In the Idaho women’s last meet – the Santa Clara Invitational Oct. 17 – Gomez beat her personal record from the same course two years ago by 35 seconds.

“She wants to go to the NCAA National Championships and be an All-American,” Floeck said. “That’s hard to do in the western region, competing against Oregon, Washington and Stanford, and to make it out of the region could be harder than actually achieving All-American. She’s one of the fastest runners in the Big Sky Conference and I believe she can make it to nationals and become an All-American.”
