Business dean Dr. Mario Reyes to step down before returning and retiring

College of Business and Economics Dean Mario Reyes will be stepping down at the end of this academic year. Reyes plans to return to faculty after a break, according to a university statement.

Reyes is set to return to faculty in January 2017.

“We will be thrilled to welcome him back as a respected and revered member of our talented and dedicated faculty,” said John Wiencek, University of Idaho provost and executive vice president, in a statement.

The university will begin preparing for Reyes” departure this fall.

“There will be an international search for the new CBE Dean,” said Associate Business Dean Daniel Borgia.

Reyes has been a part of UI since he joined the faculty in 1985. Serving as associate dean of the college from 2006-2011 and dean since 2012, Reyes has supported and helped to raise funds for the business college”s many programs.

“Dean Reyes began thinking about his next steps/retirement after the untimely death of former CBE Dean Jack Morris who was both a friend and mentor to Dean Reyes,” Borgia said.

Reyes” accomplishments at the college include maintaining the college”s accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, raising money to increase the number of faculty fellowships and enhancing the Integrated Business curriculum. Business students may be familiar with his work moving and expanding the trading room.
