Sending vibrations through the floors of the Student Union Building
ballroom, speakers amplified the music of Texas rock band Ivoryline
Tuesday.
Ivoryline followed the local opener, The Nameless, with a playlist of
about 10 songs. Both bands had a distinct rock sound and managed to get
the small crowd moving. The Nameless, a five person band, opened the
show with solid sound and instrumentals. The Nameless played about five songs, including “Don’t Break My Heart” and “Memories” from their soon to be released album Memories. The instrumental sound was strong with the standard guitars, bass and drums, but also included a keyboard and tambourine. The only downfall of the sound The Nameless encountered was the vocals being overpowered by the instrumentals.
After a short break, headliner Ivoryline took the stage to a slightly larger crowd. The band came out full of energy and ready to make the audience move. Jumping around on the stage, Ivoryline’s performance was more entertaining than The Nameless. Head banging through the entire performance, Ivoryline’s songs were full of strong sounds and fast-paced beats. The band encountered a couple of technical difficulties including a tune-up for the drummer, which took about 10 minutes to repair after The Nameless drummer provided them with a drum key. At one other point in the night, the microphone’s frequency was disrupted, but quickly fixed.
Despite the technical difficulties, Ivoryline kept the crowd bouncing up and down and singing along with their songs. The band played songs from their newest album, There Game a Lion, including “The Last Words,” “Remind Me I’m Alive” and “Hearts and Minds.” The vocals and instrumentals were balanced and worked together. Several of their songs would begin somewhat slow but quickly pick up to typical rock beats. The four person band also had strong use of electric guitar and bass with another good performance on the drums. The show was overall energetic and a good performance on both halves, despite the little number of people in the crowd. Add as favorites (29) | Views: 676
