The University of Idaho’s men’s golf team moved up one spot in it’s final round to finish 17th at the Fresno State Lexus Invitational in Fresno, Calif. Senior Ben Weyland led the men’s golf team after the first round of the tournament. He opened the first round with a 71 and by the afternoon shot a 76 — tying him for 56th. Sophomore Brad Tensen was the second round leader for the Vandals. He started the day with a 77, and by the afternoon Tensen shot a 69, bringing his total 146. He finished in a tie with Weyland for 43rd. Vandal players Russell Grove tied for 61st, Colter Kautzmann tied for 80th and Craig O’Meara tied for 100th. With one round left to play, the Vandals were 18th at the invitational with a total of 597. The Vandal women’s golf team traveled to Las Vegas where senior Kelly Nakashima was the first round leader at the UNLV Spring Invitational. “Kelly played awesome,” coach Lisa Wasinger-Johnson said. “She just played nice and steady like she usually does.” Nakashima wrapped up the tournament at two-under 214 to tie for eighth. In the end, Idaho tied for 9th as a team with a total score of 887. “We struggled a little bit off the tee,” Wasinger-Johnson said. “We had four or five unplayable lies. That cost us a few strokes. Other than that, we played pretty solid. I think everyone will continue to improve as each day comes.” The host of the tournament — UNLV — lead the tournament. Add as favorites (15) | Views: 245
