‘Across the Universe’ at the SUB
“Across the Universe” will play at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at the SUB Borah Theater. Tickets are $2 for students and $3 for the public.

Auditions on way for ‘Seussical’
Regional Theatre of the Palouse is holding auditions for its upcoming production of “Seussical the Musical.” All performers should be 8 or older. Children’s auditions will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and teens and adults’ auditions are from 6:30 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 1036 W. A St. in Moscow.
On Wednesday, auditions will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 1410 NE Stadium Way in Pullman. Some performers will be required to attend callbacks from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 19 at St. James Episcopal Church. “Seussical” incorporates bits and pieces of 14 Seuss classics including, “Horton Hears a Who,” “Horton Hatches the Egg,” “Gertrude McFuzz” and “The Cat in the Hat.” The show will run April 10 to 12 and 17 to 19 at the new RTOP Theatre at 122 N. Grand Ave. in Pullman. Evening rehearsals begin Feb. 25.

UI Theatre and film students to compete

Over 24 UI Department of Theatre and Film students will perform an “Acting Showcase” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the Hartung Theatre.
The students are performing monologues, scenes and songs that they will showcase as part of The Irene Ryan Acting Competition at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Regional Competition, which will be held in Laramie, Wyo. on Feb. 18 to 22.
The showcases are free but donations will be accepted to help offset the cost of traveling to the festival.

S.A.I. Musicale to Benefit Local Music Philanthropy
Women of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity (S.A.I.) will
present a concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 in the
UI Lionel Hampton School of Music Recital Hall.
The musicale is the annual fundraising event of the Moscow-Pullman Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.
The chapter uses the donated funds to support its Community Outreach Grants as well as an annual award to a college SAI member.
The hour-long program will feature a variety of music from classical works by Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn, to newer compositions.
UI voice professor Pamela Bathurst will sing “Lumiére Blanche,” accompanied by her son and composer Brendan Littlefield.
There will be refreshments at a reception in the Recital Hall lobby immediately following the musicale.
There is no charge for admission, but donations will be accepted to help support the chapter’s local philanthropic work.

Black History events for February
The University of Idaho’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and the University of Idaho’s Black Student Union, National Society of Black Engineers, African Student Association, University of Idaho’s Women’s Center and the Diversity Initiative Growth Grant Program will sponsor these events.
Events will run throughout the month of February and are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Book Circle reader shares from ‘Buffalo Dance’
Frank X. Walker, African-American author and educator, will present his book “Buffalo Dance: The Journey of York” at a Book Circle at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 11 and 25 in the Teaching and Learning Center Room 229.
In the book, Walker innovatively blurs the lines between poetry, fiction and history to tell the story of the infamous Lewis and Clark expedition from the perspective of Clark’s slave, York.
A limited number of books will be available to participants.

Women’s Center to share film and lunch

There will be a screening of “Lackawanna Blues” on 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Idaho’s Women’s Center Lounge in Memorial Gym Room 109.
“Lackawanna Blues” takes a look into the African-American community before desegregation.
The HBO film showcases a story of unconditional love between a mother and her son, telling the story of a woman who overcame segregation in her community.
Lunch items will be provided.

Donuts and discussion with President Tim White

University of Idaho President Tim White will discuss diversity on campus at noon on Monday, Feb. 18, in the Student Diversity Center located in the Teaching and Learning Center Room 229.
Refreshments and donuts will be provided.

National Society of Black Engineers to present guest speaker

Philip Emeagwali, a recipient of the Gordon Bell Award, will speak on the topic “Obstacles Faced by Developing Minority Engineers — Career and Education” at 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the University Inn-Best Western, located at 1516 Pullman Rd. in Moscow.
General admission is $12 and $10 for students.

Founder of Project New Hope to speak to community
Bapthol Joseph, president and CEO of Changing Directions 4 Youth and Families, will visit with students and the community on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Frank X. Walker to discuss trends in literature

Frank X. Walker, black author, educator and poet, will read from his works and discuss trends in black literature at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Janssen Engineering Building Room 104.
