Breaking news: Moscow councilman presumed dead Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 January 2007

John Dickinson, Moscow city councilman and a former University of Idaho professor, is presumed dead after an accident Sunday night near The Dalles, Ore.

Dickinson is believed to have fallen or jumped off of a bridge spanning the John Day River on Interstate  84 after stopping to help a fellow motorist. Oregon State Police Sgt. Julie Wilcox announced Tuesday that the search for Dickinson has become a recovery effort, citing the speed, depth and temperature of the river as factors. The bridge is 100 feet above the river, which was about 40 degrees at the time and between 83 and 105 feet deep.

For more information and an update on the search, read Friday's issue of The Argonaut and watch this page.
