Washington State University defensive coordinator Robb Akey will become the new head football coach for the Vandals, replacing the departed Dennis Erickson. The decision will be announced at a 2 p.m. press conference today in the Vandal Athletic Center. An assistant coach at WSU since 1998, Akey was promoted to defensive coordinator for the 2003 season. He also coaches the defensive line. Akey and wife, Molly, have two children, Jack and Daniel. Erickson left the University of Idaho for Arizona State University Dec. 9 after only 10 months at Idaho. Akey was one of a pool of candidates that included John L. Smith, a former Idaho and Michigan State coach, and Mike Kramer, the current Montana State coach and a former Idaho player, among others. Both withdrew their names from consideration last week. Add as favorites (23) | Views: 531
