From grape to bottle: Making local wines Print E-mail
Thursday, 07 September 2006
Filling the bottles
Grapes for red wine are pressed, then fermented. The process is flipped for white wine grapes. After fermentation, the wine is purified with filters and refining agents. The purified wine is poured into a variety of barrels, where it sits until it is pumped into bottles. Here, Scott fills two bottles with Pinot Gris.

Labels
The bottles are labeled and sealed before they are placed on display. Here, clerk Kristen Grote labels a bottle.

Sealing
Clerk Grant McCracken holds a bottle he has just finished sealing.

Just a taste
The winery sells both local and out-of-area wines and domestic and import microbrews. A seating area provides space to relax, and customers can taste the wines before they buy. Here, Grote provides a sample to a customer.
