Tribute to the last ‘Lord of the Rings’

Now that the final Hobbit movie is over, I have gone through the hours and hours of soundtracks from each movie and made a list of my top six songs from “The Lord of the Rings” series and “The Hobbit” series.

“The Last Goodbye” by Billy BoydJordan_Hollingshead

This song plays during the credits of “The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies.” Billy Boyd, who played the character of Pippin in “The Lord of the Rings,” was excited to make the song and sing it for “The Hobbit.” “The Last Goodbye” is a great song to end the final Hobbit on, because as the title of the song says, this was the last goodbye for the series.

“Sleepsong” by Secret Garden

This song was played many times throughout “The Lord of the Rings” series. This song is on my list of best songs because of the pretty music and lyrics. The soothing music and vocals makes this one of the most peaceful songs I have ever heard.

“I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran

“I See Fire” was sung many times throughout “The Hobbit” series and was one of the most catchy to listen to. This song would have people leaving the theater singing it for the next week.  Ed Sheeran did a great job with this song and I believe if someone else was given this song, it would not be on this list.

“Misty Mountains Cold” by Richard Armitage

This song was also sung many times throughout the Hobbit movies, but perhaps its most iconic scene was when all the dwarves were in Bilbo’s house singing it around a fire. Interesting fact about the scene: although all the dwarves were actually singing, two of them were told to sing a little quieter than the others.

“The Edge of Night” by Billy Boyd

Sung by Pippin in “The Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King,” this song was supposed to be a poem the character would simply speak, but Billy Boyd thought it would be better to sing it. “The Edge of Night,” although a very short song, shows off the great voice of Billy Boyd and gives listeners goosebumps from the eerie way it was sung.

“Very Old Friends” by Howard Shore

This is the iconic Shire music everyone who has seen either “The Lord of the Rings” or “The Hobbit” series has come to know and love. This song was played in every Lord of the Rings movie and in two of the three Hobbit movies.

No. Sleepsong was NEVER used in Lotr Trilogy. Only in fanmade youtube videos. How could be? It was released in the 2005 by Secret Garden for the first time. The last Lotr movie is 2003.

What scene does the sleep song appear in the movies? I’ve never heard it during the films and I’ve watched them 1,000 times.
