Football assistant Vaught loses battle with cancer
Mark Vaught, assistant director of football operations, died of cancer Wednesday night, according to a statement released by the University of Idaho Athletic Department. He was 31 years old. Vaught is survived by his wife of five years, Bailey, as well as his parents, siblings and in-laws. He joined the Vandals in 2008. Before becoming a Vandal, Vaught graduated from Oregon State and earned a master’s degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington. In a statement, Idaho football coach Paul Petrino expressed sorrow over Vaught’s passing and conveyed deep sympathies for his family.
“Mark Vaught was a true professional; a great worker,” Petrino said in a statement. “He brought happiness to everyone who was around him in his life. He was a great friend. I love him. I’m going to miss him forever.”
