Last minute DIY costumes

It’s not too late to not be lame

If you don’t have a Halloween costume by now, you have only a few short hours left to procure one, but fear not, I am here with some quick and easy do-it-yourself costumes to save your holiday.do it yourself

It’s tempting to go as a “college student,” or something similar and lame. If you are going to dress up, you might as well be something worthwhile. On the other end of the spectrum, sometimes more creative students decide to dress up as “naked,” or something equally stupid. Don’t succumb to this panic and weak thinking.

When coming up with a costume, it is important to consider several factors. Costumes should be comfortable, appropriate, creative and not offensive. It is going to be cold outside and warm inside, so look for a costume that will help you avoid heat stroke indoors and hypothermia in the streets.

Since this is Idaho, chances are there is a camouflage outfit available somewhere nearby. Combine full camo with some branches and you are suddenly dressed up as a tree.

If you don’t mind spending a few dollars, the outdoor rental center is a great costume resource. They have everything you need to be a scuba diver or mountain climber. Heck, you could even dress up as a tent.

Another option is to get an orange jumpsuit from Moscow Building Supply. They sell used jumpsuits that have been cleaned and patched and look like they are from the state penitentiary. Get a jumpsuit and some toy handcuffs and you’re all set to go as a criminal.

If those costumes aren’t your style, head to Ross. They have so much random stuff, it’s impossible to leave without being inspired.

If you are looking for more of an animated hero vibe, find one of those big foil pans, spray paint it yellow and green and strap it on your back for some ninja turtle action. If you have friends who also forgot to come up with costumes this can be a good group option as well.

For some people, any costume is just too much work. For those people, I recommend going as a backwards person. Get a mask, throw it on the back of your head, put a wig over your face and turn all of your clothes around.

Hopefully, these ideas get your creative wheels turning. Pretty much anything is better than going as nothing at all. Just remember to have fun and be safe.
