Jordan Green resigns, accepts Gonzaga job

The Idaho athletic department announced Friday morning that associate women’s basketball coach Jordan Green has resigned after three years with the program and since, The Argonaut confirmed that Green has accepted an assistant coaching position at Gonzaga.

Green, who also spent four years with coach Jon Newlee at Idaho State, played an important role in the Vandals’ back-to-back WAC tournament championships and NCAA tournament bids.

Jordan Green spent three years with Idaho and helped the Vandals win consecutive WAC championships. He now leaves for Gonzaga.

“I want to thank Jordan for all his efforts and contributions to our program,” Newlee stated. “I gave Jordan his first job at the Division I level and have watched his tremendous growth as a coach with considerable pride. We enjoyed great success while he was here and I wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Green was promoted to associate head coach ahead of the 2013-14 season and he was responsible for recruiting, scouting opponents and developing the Vandal defense, especially in the post.

In Pocatello, Idaho, Green helped Newlee’s Idaho State teams win two Big Sky championships, advance to an NCAA tournament and two WNIT tournaments. Green also spent time at Seattle U, where he worked as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program.

He will join a Gonzaga staff now headed by Lisa Fortier, who was promoted to head coach after spending seven years as an assistant with the Bulldogs. Ex-Gonzaga coach Kelly Graves left for Oregon on April 7.

The Vandals and Bulldogs have met every season since 2008 and most recently on Nov. 8, 2013, when Idaho dropped an eight-point decision in the first game of the Preseason WNIT — the closest margin of loss for Newlee’s program against GU in recent history.
