WAC basketball polls released

Ahead of the 2012-2013 season, the preseason media and coaches polls have the Vandal men’s basketball team ranked fifth and sixth respectively. The media and coaches flipped their votes on the women’s side as Idaho was also picked to finish fifth and sixth. The WAC champion New Mexico State men’s team was picked to win their second consecutive conference title by the coaches, while the media chose conference powerhouse Utah State to come out on top. Both the media and coaches selected the Utah State women to win the conference, followed by La. Tech.

Three Vandals honored on preseason all-WAC teams

Idaho senior center Kyle Barone, who was selected to the all-WAC preseason first team, was the only Vandal men’s player nominated to an all-WAC team. Utah State junior Preston Medlin was the unanimous player of the year selection. On the women’s side, Alyssa Charlston and Krissy Karr were selected to the all-WAC first and second team respectively.

Utah State’s Devyn Christensen was chosen as the Preseason WAC Player of the Year by both the coaches and the media.

Women’s tennis announces fall schedule

Coming off a WAC Championship match appearance last spring, coach Daniel Pollock and the Vandal women’s tennis team have announced their spring schedule. Idaho will begin the spring slate on the road, but won’t have to travel far for its first match in Pullman against Washington State. It will be two consecutive matches against Pac-12 opposition when the Vandals visit Eugene, Ore., to meet the Oregon Ducks. Idaho will play Portland and Portland State before traveling to Boise for in-state clashes with Boise State and Idaho State. Idaho will host one home match, against Eastern Washington on Mar. 6, before opening WAC play. Three of the team’s final four matches will be in Moscow when the Vandals host WAC opponents San Jose State, Seattle U. and Texas State on April 12-14.
